Will there be a stop to the puffery?

[edit]

There is a continuous, incessant crusade to puff up the text with the smallest of details and the strongest of puffery. And this is particularly annoying in the lead section. Enough is enough. Can we hope for these attempts to cease and the aficionados to desist? This is a sincere call to encyclopaedic sanity and an genuine attempt at inviting good faith, people. -The Gnome (talk) 23:13, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you started this discussion at last. I don't disagree with you that the first paragraph does not need any changes indeed. It is also true that mentioning his other ventures (rum brand and one voice role) is not necessary. The rest, however, was in fact incomplete prior to the changes I just made. If you'd like me to elaborate:
  • "Mars' first three studio albums found critical and commercial success, with the latter winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year." - How does that sentence even make sense to you?? What does "the latter" mean if you don't mention the supposedly successful albums in the first place?? Naming the albums is crucial.
  • "He also featured on Mark Ronson's 2014 single "Uptown Funk", which became Billboard's best-performing song of the 2010s." - This is not at all puffery. "Uptown Funk" topped Billboard's Decade-End chart, surpassing every other song released during the 2010s, similarly to Mariah Carey's "One Sweet Day" in the 1990s and "We Belong Together" in the 2000s - both are mentioned in the lead on her page despite the fact that her career is longer and there are many more achievements to mention. It is his most successful single and it would be unfair to include "Nothin' on You" or "Leave the Door Open" in the lead, while excluding "Uptown Funk".
  • "He scored nine Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles." - not puffery either. This is regularly mentioned in the lead for musicians who found success on the Hot 100. If you check out the list of Billboard Hot 100 chart achievements and milestones, you'll find out that Mars is one of only few male singers to have nine singles top the chart.
  • You can't continously use "he" in every paragraph. -Hubert555 (talk) 17:00, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bruno Mars unfounded allegations of debt

[edit]

If this allegation has been refuted with citation, should it be included in this article?

”Mars was reportedly $50 million in debt in March 2024 due to gambling losses, possibly explaining his nine-year Vegas residency at Park MGM.[1][2] MGM Resorts denied the allegations on March 18, with senior vice president of public relations Jenn Michaels saying that he "has no debt with MGM ... speculation otherwise is completely false."[3][4] Mars has since poked fun at the rumor.[5][6]Doglover.Coton (talk) 16:47, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Its already in the article, under Wealth MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:31, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering if it souls be included in the article at all since it seems like the accusations were unfounded. Doglover.Coton (talk) 22:19, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think they all stem from the same rumor that a poker player said that Mars actually owes the casino that money. The sources that affirm that are reliable such as NME and Consequence. The same can be said regarding Billboard and People magazine. I strongly believe if the information is removed someone will add it somewhere else in the article shortly. Nevertheless, I'm prepared for a discussion regarding said issue. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:36, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I don’t see the encyclopedic value of publishing that kind of information. Add to that is that it is clearly in dispute and there are already flags that the article is too filled with “puffery” and I don’t think it should be included.
I won’t “die on this sword” as Bruno Mars is poking fun at the rumor. Doglover.Coton (talk) 20:45, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A claim by an anonymous "well placed Vegas insider" is still just a rumor, and since it's been denied by the casino itself, mentioning it in the article is just giving oxygen to gossip. I'd support its removal. Schazjmd (talk) 23:18, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Those issues regarding "puffery" have been addressed on a GOCE. Please stay in topic with the current discussion and up to date with other stuff. Don't start throwing issues that have been addressed and malicious comments made by another user. Everyone is happy with the changes up to that point MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 23:52, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was simply saying the rumor and its refutation were superfluous and not germaine to the topic. Doglover.Coton (talk) 02:12, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Which I wouldn't say otherwise. I could honestly go either way, but a dicussion about it should be opened. Two to three users is not enough for a discussion or even to vote. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 07:49, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
