If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- San Sebastian Stags volleyball (currently a redirect to San Sebastian Lady Stags volleyball) → San Sebastian Lady Stags volleyball (move · discuss) – Article discusses the women's team instead of the men's team. Howard the Duck (talk) 15:46, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- 'Alawi dynasty (currently a redirect to Alawi dynasty) → Alawi dynasty (move · discuss) – per WP:MOSAR, we do not transcribe initial ayn in basic transcription Wybxis (talk) 23:36, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Wybxis: Any reason why you can't do the move yourself? You're autoconfirmed, which lets you move pages (which don't have a redirect blocking them) like this by yourself. – MaterialWorks 10:35, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- NS Sprinter Lighttrain (currently a redirect to Sprinter Lighttrain) → Sprinter Lighttrain (move · discuss) – Operator initials are unnecessary disambiguation or something? Undo this undiscussed move from 2010. Dicklyon (talk) 20:57, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- Umarwas Village (currently a redirect to Umarwas, Rajasthan) → Umarwas, Rajasthan (move · discuss) – two village articles with this name, one being a redirect to Umerwas. 2A00:23EE:1478:6AAC:D41C:52FF:FE2C:4707 (talk) 06:57, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- Fort at Lahaina (currently a redirect to Lahaina Fort) → Lahaina Fort (move · discuss) – move over redirect Viriditas (talk) 07:55, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- Fox Kids (Australia) (currently a redirect to Classics (TV channel)) → Fox Kids (Australian TV channel) (move · discuss) – per WP:NCTV Notrealname1234 (talk) 14:27, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Middle East and North Africa → MENA (currently a redirect back to Middle East and North Africa) (move) – Undiscussed move. The acronym MENA is the common name (just like NATO). M.Bitton (talk) 18:16, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- Just waiting for a mate → Just Waiting For A Mate (currently a redirect back to Just waiting for a mate) (move · discuss) – Capitalisation - correct Wikipedia protocol for titles Deathlibrarian (talk) 11:21, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- See MOS:TITLECAPS. -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:29, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Deathlibrarian: This is a WP:PCM. If you wish to continue with your request, click the discuss link in your request to begin a formal WP:RM discussion. Once you've done that, or if you do not wish to continue, please remove your request. Thanks! - UtherSRG (talk) 18:25, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- James Stevenson (Glasgow Camlachie MP) → James Stevenson, Lord Stevenson (currently a redirect back to James Stevenson (Glasgow Camlachie MP)) (move · discuss) – more accurate title (I created the latter page, then realised he already had a stub article under the former title) Atchom (talk) 22:42, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Atchom: Your page was considered a cut&paste move. Anyways why do you think James Stevenson (Glasgow Camlachie MP) should be moved to James Stevenson, Lord Stevenson? Is it more closer to our article naming guidelines? Please be precise in your answers. ─ The Aafī (talk) 02:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I would like to move to James Stevenson (Glasgow Camlachie MP) to James Stevenson, Lord Stevenson because the latter title corresponds more closely to Wikipedia's naming guidelines, reduces ambiguity, and corresponds to the name by which he was known for much of his life. The Glasgow Camlachie MP page said nothing about his early career, which led me to create the latter page not realising that the two were the same person. Is that clear enough? I am open to persuasion, but I don't think this is an uncontroversial technical request. PatGallacher (talk) 22:32, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Atchom: Because this move is potentially controversial, it would require a requested-move discussion, which you can begin by clicking "discuss" on your request. You can remove this request after opening a discussion (or if you do not want to continue). SilverLocust 💬 08:00, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Freya Jayawardana → Freya (singer) (currently a redirect instead to Freya (disambiguation)#Music and performers) (move · discuss) – She isn't professionally known as Freya Jayawardana. She's just Freya, as stated in the intro. It appears that no sources cite her name as being this amalgamation of her stage name (Freya) and her real name (Freyanashifa Jayawardana). —theMainLogan (t•c) 21:39, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @TheMainLogan: The current title is used as her name in JKT48's profile, as well as her Twitter (at that link) and Instagram (at the article). While this may not be her common name, there may be a need to disambiguate from other singers named Freya [1]. Because this move is potentially controversial, it would require a requested-move discussion, which you can begin by clicking "discuss" on your request. You can remove this request after opening a discussion (or if you do not want to continue). SilverLocust 💬 09:10, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Kamo, New Zealand → Te Kamo, New Zealand (move · discuss) – area has been renamed by New Zealand Geographical Board LordReverendHignessProle (talk) 04:52, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- @LordReverendHignessProle: A simple Google search shows the current title returns 100x the results at this time. This is a WP:PCM. - Alex Ward (American football) → Alex Ward (move · discuss) – Current page for "Alex Ward" links to a tennis player named "Alexander Ward". Now, another athlete has the name "Alex Ward", which has garnered four times the amount of views as the tennis player since 7/19. He should have the base, non-disambiguated page. - @Debartolo2917: Changing the topic of an existing page is not non-controversial. Please discuss at Talk:Alex Ward first. --Ahecht (TALK

- Lincoln Academy (Maine) → Lincoln Academy (move · discuss) – There is currently only one active educational institution with the name Lincoln Academy Mrn5768 (talk) 15:29, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- I disagree. There is another active institution at The Lincoln Academy of Illinois, which has the state in its official name but I don't think that allows the Maine academy to have the basic namespace here. We also have Lincoln Academy (Kings Mountain, North Carolina), which is defunct but still of historical interest and therefore equally notable to the Maine academy. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:34, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Mrn5768: This is not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. See pageviews. - Station1 (talk) 19:08, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter whether the other institutions are currently operating or not. That has nothing to do with choosing Wikipedia article titles. (The one in Greensboro, North Carolina is also currently operating – see Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 August 11#The Academy at Lincoln.) — BarrelProof (talk) 23:45, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

- Virginia Tech College of Architecture and Urban Studies → Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (move · discuss) – Very clear WP:COMMONNAME, very clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Virginia Tech College of Architecture and Urban Studies has been renamed to Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design in VT News. Everything has been updated to reflect this on the wiki page except for the article title VDanger22 (talk) 16:25, 11 August 2023
