Stephen Zechariah (born 27 December 1988) is a Singaporean actor, singer, and music composer[1]. He composed his first song, Saaral Mazhaiyaa, and later created the first Indian indie musical trilogy: Usuraiya Tholaichaen, Sagiyae, and Vilagathey. Stephen Zechariah won the Most Celebrated Independent Singer in Digital – Tamil award[2] at the Behindwoods Gold Icon Award 2024, the Best International Singer award at the Edison Awards, the Best Actor in a Negative Role at Pradhana Vizha 2021, and the Best in Local Indian Entertainment at Pradhana Vizha 2025, among others.
Personal Life
[edit]Stephen Zechariah was born in India and raised in Singapore. He began playing music as a drummer at a young age, and started learning the keyboard at 17. By 2015, he was writing and composing his own songs.
Career
[edit]Stephen Zechariah made his big-screen debut in 2016 with the Singaporean-Malaysian film Joe: The Black Assassin' , where he also served as composer. His first song was Saaral Mazhaiyaa.
He later composed the Indian indie musical trilogy: Usuraiya Tholaichaen, Sagiyae, and Vilagathey.
He has starred in various scripted series, including the mystery thriller Avathaaram (2019), for which he won Best Actor in a Negative Role at Pradhana Vizha 2021.
Stephen Zechariah played leading roles in the musical drama Naam (2020), directed by T. Suriavelan, and Parambarai (2021)[3], directed by Jaya Rathakrishnan. In Naam, he portrayed Aaryan, a musician and singer. In Parambarai, his character Krishnayya evokes the spirit and identity of Tamils in Singapore during World War II. He later starred in Naam S2 (2022), Vaan Varu Vaan (Vasantham Muthal Paarvai S3), and the Vaan Varu Vaan [4]series
In April 2023, Zechariah debuted his first live concert in Chennai, India. He subsequently performed in multiple countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and France, expanding his reach across the global Tamil diaspora.[5]
On 14 August 2023, Stephen Zechariah made a guest appearance on Super Singer Junior Season 10[6], marking his debut on Indian television. He performed two of his popular song “Adi Penne” and “Kannoram,” during the episode, which aired on Star Vijay.
