Lilypad Learning
[edit]
Lilypad Learning is a student‑led, not‑for‑profit initiative based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, that provides free, peer‑driven financial‑literacy workshops for youth aged 14–18. Founded in 2024 by University of Calgary undergraduates, the group delivers sessions in community centres and, beginning in 2025, in high‑school classrooms."About". Lilypad Learning. Retrieved 22 May 2025.
History
[edit]Lilypad Learning was established in late 2024 after its founders observed gaps in the provincial curriculum’s treatment of personal finance. The organisation held its first two pilot workshops—branded "Turn Your Cents Into Sense"—at Cardel Rec Centre South in early 2025. The sessions focused on budgeting, debt and introductory investing and were attended by more than a dozen participants each.
Programmes
[edit]Peer‑led workshops
[edit]The core programme consists of a 90‑minute session combining personal money stories with a gamified budgeting activity. According to participant feedback collected by the organisers, attendees reported feeling "more informed and curious about personal finance" after the class.
Two‑stream model
[edit]Lilypad Learning plans to operate on a two‑stream model: out‑of‑school workshops offered in community venues, and in‑school sessions that align with Alberta Curriculum outcomes in courses such as Career and Life Management (CALM). Four in‑school pilot sessions are scheduled for 2025.
Partnerships
[edit]In 2025 the organisation announced a collaboration with Planet Youth Calgary, a community group that hosts youth development programmes."Home". Lilypad Learning. Retrieved 22 May 2025.
Organisation
[edit]The volunteer board comprises five University of Calgary students, including co‑founders Brandon Reid (president) and Kianna Carsolio (vice‑president)."Our Team". Lilypad Learning. Retrieved 22 May 2025.
