Early Life and Education

[edit]

Jordan was born in Mobile, Alabama, and graduated from St. Paul’s Episcopal School in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Science in healthcare management, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)[1]. Before entering nursing, he worked as director of clinical trials at a dermatology practice[2][3] Through UAB’s Accelerated Master’s in Nursing Pathway, he obtained his Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in pediatric acute care.[4] His doctoral research focused on neurologic outcomes in pediatric brain injury.[5]

Career

[edit]

Following completion of his graduate studies, Jordan joined the faculty of the UAB School of Nursing. He serves as an assistant professor and coordinator for the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (AC-PNP) program, contributing to curriculum development and graduate clinical training.[6] In addition to his academic role, Jordan practices as a pediatric critical care nurse practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s of Alabama.[7]

Research and Professional Activity

[edit]

Jordan’s scholarly work focuses on pediatric neurologic and critical care, particularly traumatic brain injury and multimodal neuromonitoring.[8] His research has been presented at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.[9][10] He is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.[11][12][13] He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pediatric Health Care.[14]

Honors & Recognitions

[edit]

Jordan has received awards recognizing his contributions to nursing education, research, and leadership. In 2024, he was honored with the Dean’s Award for Faculty from the UAB School of Nursing for leadership in advancing inclusive academic practices.[15][16]

During his tenure as an officer of the Alabama Chapter of NAPNAP and Member-at-Large of NAPNAP, the chapter received the national Small Chapter of the Year award for three consecutive years (2023–2025).[17][18][19] He received Presidential Commendations from NAPNAP in 2022 and 2023 for contributions to pediatric health policy and professional leadership.[20] In 2022, NAPNAP named him an Emerging Leader, recognizing early-career national impact in pediatric nursing.[21][22]

Jordan’s doctoral research was supported by the Alabama League for Nursing’s Doctoral Nursing Scholarship in 2020,[23] and he was previously named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar.[24]
