The Hall of Pretty Good is an American satirical hall of fame created in 2025 by Bryce Whitlow. It humorously honors Baseball athletes, who have achieved notable but not quite "great" status — described by its founder as "pretty good."

History

[edit]

The Hall of Pretty Good was announced by Scott Hanson in early 2025 on his podcast Ten12MinutePodcast. Hanson, known as the host of NFL RedZone, conceived the idea as a tongue-in-cheek response to the often overly serious nature of sports halls of fame. The physical location opened to the public in April 2025 in a small storefront in Minneapolis.[1]

Inductees

Reception

[edit]

The Hall of Pretty Good has been described as "the perfect joke for sports fans who don’t take themselves too seriously."[2] It has received coverage from major sports outlets and attracted visitors interested in sports humor and memorabilia.

Criteria

[edit]

To be inducted into the Hall of Pretty Good, a player must accumulate less than 35.0 bWAR, must not have won a Cy Young Award, must not have won a Most Valuable Player award (World Series and All-Star Game awards do not count), must be retired or inactive, and cannot be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. They must receive 65% of the fan vote in 24 hours. If they do not receive the necessary 65%, they will be eligible to return to the wheel after a year.

Through the fan vote percentage, inner rings of the Hall of Pretty Good have been formed with their own criteria. The Inner Circle is recognized when a player gets 90-98% of the fan vote, and Pretty Unanimous (First Formed by Adam Jones) is when a player manages to get 99% of the fan vote.

Significant coverage/recognition

[edit]

The Hall of Pretty Good (HOPG) has been mentioned by a number of sports & news outlets, such as Yahoo Sports[1], Sports Illustrated[2], and Jomboy Media[3]. The latter of which sparked controversy among fans for supposedly attempting to sway the vote for a player who some saw as "unfit" for the hall.
