Christian Costoya Sanabria (Spanish pronunciation: [kɾisˈtjan kosˈto.ʝa sa.naˈβɾi.a]; born 24 June 2010) is a Spanish racing driver who competes in the championshipname for teamname.

Born and raised in Silleda, Costoya began competitive kart racing aged four. After a successful karting career—culminating in his victory at the direct-drive European Championship in 2025—Costoya graduated to junior formulae.

Early life

Costoya was born and raised in Silleda, later moving to Italy in pursuit of his kart racing career.

Christian Costoya Sanabria was born on 24 June 2010 in Silleda, Galicia, Spain. His father, Marcos Costoya Castro, is a former kart racer who served as his kart mechanic in his early years and founded NWK Racing; Costoya dedicated his Galician Championship to him in 2016.[1] His mother, Gilda Beatriz Sanabria, tutored him alongside online classes from CEIP Plurilingüe de Silleda.[2] They moved to Italy in 2010 to support his international karting career.[2]

His racing idol was Lewis Hamilton early in his karting career, telling Faro de Vigo that he aspired to be as intelligent in his race management;[3] he later cited Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen as his inspirations.[4]

[edit]

[5]

2015–2019: Youngest national champion in Iberia

[edit]

Costoya enrolled in the Ariza Racing School near Toledo aged four and began competitive kart racing, entering his first event in Lugo.[6] He opened his career with runner-up spots in Ariza's internal trophy and the Más Karting Cup. In his debut season, he won the Galician Championship in the Benjamín class.

He successfully defended his title in 2016, also claiming third in the Cadete class, fourth in the Castile and León Championship, runner-up in the Trofeo Ariza, and winning the Cantabrian Championship in Pre-Alevín.

[7]

He opened his 2017 campaign with victory at the Campeonato Social de Invierno,[a] in Alevín, before moving into Rotax Micro Max, where he finished runner-up in the Asturian Championship and debuted in the Spanish and Portuguese series.

[1]

Readers of Vroomkart Spain voted him as the "Spanish Driver of the Year" in 2018,[b] ahead of CIK-FIA Academy Trophy winner Mari Boya: he became the youngest national champion in both Iberian and Portuguese history with his victories in the Rotax Trophies, defended his title at the Campeonato Social de Invierno, won the Madrid Championship, finished runner-up in the Spanish Championship and Rotax Series, claimed third in the Aragon Championship, and won the Troféu dos Campeões.[8][9] Aged eight, he became the youngest driver to reach the RMC Grand Finals at Conde–Paraíba, where he placed eleventh in a 36-driver field of entrants several years older.[10][11] His 2019 season started with victory in the Winter Series España, followed by seventh in the Spanish Championship and winning the Valencian Championship in Alevín; he defended the Troféu Rotax Portugal and became the youngest Spanish champion in España Series Rotax, prior to claiming seventh and twenty-second in the RMC International Trophy and Grand Finals, respectively. He closed his Micro career with his third successive Portuguese title, before moving to the international stage, having won fourteen national and regional championships.

2020–2022: Maiden international titles

[edit]

2020

He joined Parolin for 2021, where he had his breakout season; he opened the season by qualifying 113th at the WSK Champions Cup, where he gained 109 positions throughout the heats and final to finish fourth.[12] Vroomkart lauded his adaptability after winning the La Conca round of the WSK Super Master Series as he finished third overall.[13]

2022–2024: OK-Junior podiums with Parolin

[edit]

2022

2023

2024 By May, he moved into the top-three of the International Karting Ranking, behind rivals Van Langendonck and Schaufler.[14] He ended the year fourth overall in the IKR and second to Van Langendonck in OK-Junior.[15]

2024–2025: Record-breaking dominance in OK

[edit]

Costoya progressed to the senior OK class at the end of 2024. Debuting in the WSK Euro Series, he claimed second in his only round at Sarno to finish runner-up overall to Scott Lindblom. He closed the season with fifth at the WSK Final Cup.
