Ariana "Ari" Markey (born June 8, 2007) is a Filipino-American footballer who plays as a winger and outside back for the Pepperdine Waves women's soccer team in NCAA Division I and represents the Philippines women's national football team internationally. A left-foot-dominant and tactical wide player, she is known for her versatility, combining offensive creativity with sharp defensive skills.

In addition to her soccer career, Markey is active in sports and lifestyle marketing through her social media platform @arimarkey.

Early life and education

Markey was born in Fullerton, California, to mother Kyla , an American of Filipino descent, and father David, an American of German and Irish heritage. She has an older sister, Angela.

She attended Troy High School in Fullerton, where she played three varsity seasons under coach Mike Silzer, before transferring to Orange Lutheran High School for her junior year and played her senior year under coach Luis Segovia.

During her high school career, she earned several honors:

  • 2025 Offensive MVP
  • 2025 All-Conference First Team
  • 2022 Rookie of the Year

She graduated from Orange Lutheran High School in 2025.

Club career

Markey developed in two of Southern California’s top youth academies — Slammers FC and Legends FC.

  • With Slammers FC, she played primarily as a winger and outside back, known for her pace, technical precision, and defensive awareness.
  • With Legends FC, she featured as a forward and outside back, earning a reputation as a tactical and intelligent offensive player.

In 2022, she was selected to the ECNL Southwest All-Conference First Team, recognizing her among the top performers in one of the nation’s most competitive youth leagues.

College career

Markey joined Pepperdine University in 2025 to play NCAA Division I soccer for the Pepperdine Waves. She plays as a winger and outside back, offering attacking width and defensive versatility.

As a freshman, Markey appeared in 11 matches (5 starts), totaling 591 minutes with 1 goal and 3 assists, contributing 5 total points.[1]

She scored her first collegiate goal during Pepperdine’s historic 9–0 win over Pacific on October 4, 2025 — the largest margin of victory in program history.[2]

International career

Markey represents the Philippines women's national football team, known as the Filipinas.

  • In 2023–2024, she competed for the Philippines U17 national team in the AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, where she scored an olímpico goal against South Korea.[3]
  • In 2023, she was selected for the Philippines U20 national team and participated in the AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers.
  • Between 2024–2025, she earned call-ups to the senior Philippines women's national team for international friendlies and regional tournaments.[4]

Playing style

Markey is a left-foot-dominant, tactical wide player known for her acceleration, technical control, and ability to read play in both attack and defense. She excels as a winger and outside back, providing balance between offensive creation and disciplined defensive structure.

Personal life

Off the field, Markey is active in sports and brand marketing, using her platform @arimarkey to share her soccer journey and collaborations.

A practicing Christian, she chose Pepperdine University “because of the community that is rooted in God that gives me the opportunity to thrive as a player and a person.”[5]
