Raspberry Pi OS は、DebianベースのRaspberry Pi用の子供向けの教育用、および小規模な開発者向けのコンピュータオペレーティングシステム (OS) である。Raspberry Pi Foundation^[5]には直接的に付属していないものの、Raspberry Pi OSは正式にRaspberry Piに対応したOSである。^[6] Raspberry Pi OSはマイク・トンプソンや、ピーター・グリーンによってに初期バージョン(Raspbian)が完成し^[7] 、2012年6月^[5]以来、現在でも開発が進められている。浮動小数点演算命令をもつCPUを高速に活用できる「hard-float」（反対語は「soft-float」）を搭載したarmhfでコンパイルしたソフトウェアを実行できる特長をもつ^[8]。2020年5月に正式名称がRaspbianからRaspberry Pi OSへ変更された^[9]。 PCとMac向けのRaspbian についても、Raspberry Pi Desktopと変更された。

導入方法

複数の方法がある。

Raspberry Pi OSインストール済microSDメモリーカード（以下、SD）を購入する。
NOOBS Lite^[10]をSDにコピー。Raspberry Piで起動し、インターネット経由でRaspberry Pi OSのDesktop/Liteを導入する。
NOOBSをSDにコピー。Raspberry Pi OS本体が含まれている。
SDをフォーマットし、直接Raspberry Pi OSのDesktop/Liteを書き込む。
Raspberry Pi公式から開発されたRaspberry Pi Imagerで書き込む

付属ソフト

Python, Scratch, blender, gimp, tesseract-ocr, Sonic Pi, nginx,Chromiumなどを同梱している。また、Debianに対応したソフトをapt installで簡単に導入できる。Raspberry Pi Foundationは、公式に対応する3つのimageを提供している^[11]。2019年 6月20日には、「Raspberry Pi OS with desktop and recommended software」、「Raspberry Pi OS with desktop」と「Raspberry Pi OS Lite」が提供された。

Raspberry Pi Foundationが推奨するソフトウェア一式が入ったバージョンが提供されることになった。

Raspberry Pi OS with desktop

GUIのX-Windowをはじめ、PS用のOSと同様に、ブラウザやワープロ、表計算、プレゼンテーションなど事務用の必要最小限のソフトウェアも同梱している。OSパッケージは4GB以上になり、8GB以上のSDが必要である。

Raspberry Pi OS Lite

コマンドラインで利用する軽量版。ソフトウェアのほか、GUIのX-Windowも最初から無いRaspberry Pi OS。コマンドには、Linux Standard Baseで参照しているコマンド^[12]、Debian固有のコマンド(apt-get)、Raspberry Pi OS固有のコマンド (raspi-config)などがある^[13]。これらのコマンドはDesktopでも利用できる。
