Do we really need to "correct" widely accepted spellings?

Re: your recent edit to Paul Krugman -- the plural of syllabus is widely agreed to be ambiguous. Both the Latinate and Anglicized versions are considered correct by multiple dictionaries. (Here's Merriam Webster, just as an example. Being prescriptivist about spelling seems contrary to the spirit of Wikipedia. Rmharman (talk) 19:12, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
