To Warrens could you please be more specific on how are Microsoft Office Open XML and WordprocessingML two different things ? Microsoft is axing all its communication policy on Microsoft Office Open XML, this is the format it intends to submit to ISO. I believe that WordprocessingML is simply the old name. This merge has been suggested for a long time now, this is just WP cleaning. --Khalid hassani 14:29, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Office Open XML specification/standard consists of two main parts: Open Packaging Conventions (container/storage format) and a set of markup lanuages (WordprocessingML, SpreadsheetML, ...) for different types of documents.
WordprocessingML and SpreadsheetML are based on the markup languages (of the same name) of Microsoft Office 2003
