Lexicon is a role-playing game invented by Neel Krishnaswami and popularised by the indie gaming community. As originally proposed, it is played online using Wiki software. Players assume the role of scholars that write the history and background of a particular time, era or world (completely fictitious in nature).
Each game is a series of turns, using the letters of the alphabet from A to Z. On a scholar's first turn, he/she/it must write an entry beginning with the letter A, citing two entries that are linked to, but not written yet. These new entries cannot be defined (they will be on subsequent turns by other players).
On the subsequent turns, all entries with the next letter B must be written before any other new entries are input. A new entry must contain two unwritten entries, plus a link to an entry that has been previously written.
As the game goes on, an entire world is created, just by the simple act of creating Encyclopedia entries to people, places and things in a fictional world.
Telephone pad is a shorter variant with 8 turns (corresponding to the letters on a telephone keypad) instead of 26 turns (one for each letter of the alphabet).
