Gardetto's

Gardetto's is a brand of snack mix owned by General Mills, who also owns the similar Chex Mix. The Gardetto Family Bakery was founded in 1931 in Wisconsin by Baptiste and Diane Gardetto and acquired by General Mills in 1999 however, according to the packaging the year was 1932. According to the packaging it was at the bakery that Judy Gardetto took the trimmings of breadsticks and mixed them in along with other snack bits and a blend of special seasonings.

Today, Gardetto's is still sold in its original recipe as well as in reduced fat original, Italian recipe, Italian cheese blend, Chipotle Cheddar, and a deli-style mustard pretzel mix. Each serving (1/2 cup or 30g) of Gardetto's contains about 1 gram of trans fat. Gardetto's Mixes do not contain peanuts or traces of tree nuts, but do contain wheat, milk, and soy ingredients.

In 2006, Gardetto's released a "special request" snack including only the brown rye pieces which is still currently sold in many places.

Such discontinued varieties include but are not limited to depending on geographics are Sour Cream and Onion and Ranch flavored mixes, both of which included spiral cut cracker bits replacing the rye toast disks. The two were available for short time before being eliminated from store shelves. Another favourite eliminated after several years of production was Pizza Mix, which was later replaced by Italian Recipe being quite similar.
