The seminary is situated in the heart of the Lawaan hills on the top of a knoll rising more than 30 feet above sea level. The Seminary and its surrounding areas comprise some three hectares of rocky hills. SPXS is easily accesible about a kilometer from the heart of Roxas City, above 200 yards from the Archbishop's residence and around 300 yards from the provincial road. The top of the hills affords a panorama of the valleys, the coast range from Culasi Port to Panay town and the cascade mountains of Loctugan and Ivisan. The site offers the advantages of frequent gentle breeze even during the warmer summer season. The climate remains mild throughout the rest of the year that a former Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, the Most Rev. Egidio Vagnozzi, once said that St. Pius X Seminary is the best located seminary in the Philippines.

Since its inception, SPXS has offered integrated formation and quality education for the secondary level and pre-college formation where natural human virtues, basic religious values, Christian behavior pattern, sound study habits, community life orientation and appreciation for the priesthood are initially inculcated as approved by the Sacred congregation for Catholic Education. The services of its priests-administrators, staff, lay faculty and personnel are purely a selfless and untiring dedication to impart a high standard of education and formation; so fees are kept at the minimum without depreciating the quality of education offered.

History

The erection of the Diocese of Capiz on May 28, 1951 brought with it the duty on the part of its bishop and faithful the construction of a Diocesan Seminary to yield priests for the rich harvest of the Diocese. But the meager financial resources of the young Diocese seemed to render the immediate pursuit of the project too ambitious, considering that the Bishop has no permanent residence as of yet. However the late Bishop Antonio F. Frondosa, appointed second Bishop of Capiz in 1952, remained undaunted. For the purpose, Dr. and Mrs. Catalino Albar donated a lot for the Bishop's residence, adjacent to the lot (3.3 hectares) donated by Mr. and Mrs Pedro Alba for the seminary site.

August 13, 1953 marked the laying of the first corner stone of the Capiz Diocesan Seminary; on the same day the Bishop's residence was inagurated. On September 3, 1953, feast of Pope St. Pius X, the first half of the Seminary was blessed by then Auxiliary Bishop Teofilo Camomot and Archbishop Jose Ma. Cuenco, both of the Archdiocese of Jaro of which Capiz is a suffragan. Upon the insistence of the Papal Nuncio, Msgr. Vagnozzi, when he saw the half finished Seminary in 1956, Bishop Frondosa issued circular No. 3/57 on May 31, 1957 announcing the opening of the new diocesan seminary and appointing Rev. Fr. Jaime L. Sin as its first rector.

Seven priests staff SPXS, on its first years, with five lay teachers, and thirty three pioneering seminarians. Finally, upon its completion, the whole Seminary edifice was blessed on June 13, 1959. Its academic fromation, Classical Secondary Courses was given Government Recognition by the Department of Education on April 21, 1961.
