Service-oriented development of applications
In the field of Application_development, SODA is the more commonly refered to as Service-oriented_Development_Of_Applications. The term SODA is said to be coined by the widely read Gartner research firm.
In mid April 2005 there appear to be a realignment towards applications that can be "constructed" by business analysts via Process_Modeling mechanisms [1].
For people charged with Application_development, it may be useful to focus on the deliverables expected from a Service-oriented architecture enabled environment. One recent resource to read up on this subject is from Miko Matsumura, in an article called Whats the Big Deal About SOA.
Views of caution
In the article Let SODA Ruin Your SOA, the author argues that use of a commercially available Enterprise_Service_Bus product provides the flexibility that organizations rushing to implement inhouse SODA solutions would miss out. This danger is greater for sites that use Application_server which could diminish flexibility in redeployment and composition of services.
