Playdata Charts is a weekly airplay chart, measuring songs being played on radio stations in Nigeria,[1] and published on its website, with data gathered from its proprietary PlayData Broadcast Monitoring service.[2] The company was founded by Nigerian retired singer eLDee (born. Lanre Dabiri),[3] and it provides a weekly top 100 airplay chart (previously top 10 until 2017). Its first chart issue was released on 10 January 2016, and led by Adekunle Gold "Pick Up".[4] It serves as Nigeria's official radio music chart[5] from 10 January 2016, to 31 December 2017. It also publishes a yearly chart, titled 40 Most Played Songs in Nigeria (previously 100 until 2017).
Chart history
In 2017, Wizkid "Daddy Yo" peaked at number 1, on the week of Januray 29, 2017.[6] Runtown held the chart with "Mad Over You", spending 8 consecutive weeks on chart, from the week of February 5, 2017[7] to the week of March 5, 2017.[5][8] According to The Guardian author Beatrice Porbeni, Mad Over You was one of the most overplayed songs in 2017, and almost charted for ten weeks.[9]
Dissolved
The company became defunct in 2018, shortly after publishing its second edition of the Year-end chart for the year 2017, led by Davido "If". Playdata charts were succeeded by TurnTable charts in 2020 and currently provides more chart records, while Playdata was based on radio airplay. During the lunch of TurnTable Top 50, The Native, wrote "Hopefully, it doesn't go the way like Playdata".[10]
