Raed Faisal Alhuwaizi (Template:Lang-ar) (Born in 1968, in Baghdad), is one of the most known dentists in Iraq[1]. He came from a very famous family that his father and his four brothers ae professional in medicine. He graduated from Al-Mansour High School in Baghdad Iraq in 1985. After that, he graduated from the University of Baghdad with a bachelor's degree in dentistry and dental surgery in 1991. He got a high diploma in Community Dentistry‎ in 1995 and a M.A. in Preventive Dentistry in 2006.[2]

Life and Career

He had made a lot of researches and written a lot of books that helped most of dentistry students, becoming as a reference to the learned students[3]. He also took a lot of sensitive positions in the university of Kufa (UOK). He was promoted from a lecturer to the head of Pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and preventive medicine branch in the UOK, and he became the Director of the Health Specialist Preventive Dental Center in Najaf(1995-1998) and Baghdad (1998-2001). His professionalism in dentistry enable him to promote and take important medical position that served him to help people and led him to be well-known by many people and locality[2]. He died in 2020 due to Covid-19 virus in Iraq. [4][5]

Due to his long career in dentistry, he published different books and researches; the most important ones are:

  1. The Prevention and Treatment of Oral and Dental Diseases (Template:Lang-ar). It was published in the Ministry of Culture and Information, House of General Cultural Affairs, in 2000.[6] This book talks about several topics, including the structure and anatomy of the teeth and the preventive methods against oral and dental diseases, and how to use them. It talks about tooth decay and how to treat it in various cases and about diseases that affect the Gingiva and around the teeth and about orthodontics and Types and situations that require their use, and finally on the Wisdom tooth (third molar) and saliva.[7]
  1. Orthodontics (Template:Lang-ar). It was published in Al-Manar Press in 2009. This book talks about the most important reasons that make orthodontics necessary, about cases that need orthodontic treatment, how to treat and the type of devices used in the process, as well as how to take care of the orthodontic apparatus, and advice for emergency cases. It also talks about teeth whitening and cosmetic fillings.[2]

These books are used as a reliable source for the dental students who are relying on it in their journey to graduate from the college of dentistry as well as writing their researches.[1]

Published scientific researches

He has published a lot of researches in the dental health sector most of them were used as a resource and reference for most dental students. These researches also made a very good role in developing the dental health sector in Iraq which made the University of Kufa name the Main Hall after his name.

  • The Prevalence of Peg Shaped and Missing Permanent Maxillary Lateral Incisors in Najaf City[8][9]
  • Morphological variations in the mandibular second premolars.[10]
  • Prevalence of dental caries in Najaf City[10]
  • Oral health assessment in Najaf city.[11]
  • The use of Alum as a mouth wash against streptococcus mutans in comparison with chlorhexidine and distilled water.[2]
  • Back ache in Dentistry[2]
  • Severity and prevalence of caries experience in Najaf city.[12]
  • The Surface Hardness Measurement of Stone and Improved Die Stone After the Addition of a Mixture of Chemical Additives with Different Proportion.[13][14][15]
  • The effects of different concentrations of Alum solutions on Mutans streptococci (in vitro study)[16][17]
  • The effect of Chlorhexidine Tooth Paste on the Tooth Shade (A Comparative Study)[18]

He has also participated in and conducted many well-known Training Courses and Workshops for all dental students in Iraq to develop their skills and to introduce them to the new technologies used by leading countries in the dental sector the most important ones were[19] :

  4. Participated in a workshop entitled (Standards for the outputs of the College of Dentistry required in the labor market) at the College of Dentistry - University of Kufa for the period from (23-24 / 3/2011).
  5. He was delegated by the University of Kufa - College of Dentistry to Erbil - to attend the Book Fair (4/6/2011).
  6. Participated in a course (periodontal disease) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (10-14 / 4/2011).
  7. Participated in the course (Cosmetic Dentistry with New Technologies) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (25-29 / 9/2011).
  8. Supervisor and lecturer for a course (prevention of oral and dental diseases) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (9-13 / 10/2011)
  9. Participated in the workshop entitled (The Syllabus and its Importance) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (12/12/2011).
  10. Participated in the workshop entitled (behavioral goals) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (12/14/2011).[2]

Participation in scientific conferences

Raed Faisal Alhuwaizi had a wide range of medical contributions outside Iraq that helped the researchers and scholars to make benefit of the knowledge he gave to them. One of the most important contributions that shed light on the importance of modernization of the dental surgery is his participation in the Adeec Dental Implant Conference which was held in U.A.E in 2009. He was always invited to attend this important conference from 2009 until 2017 and recited his dental studies and researches, representing Iraq as a role model of a professional dentist. His researches during the ninth sessions of the conference were polarized the interest of the international associations and organizations like Doctors without Borders. During the events of the conference in U.A.E, his researches were published and adopted by many dentistry medical centers inside and outside Iraq[2].

Iraq

Due to his role in the medical field, his valuable knowledge in medicine and dentistry particularly, he became the main pillar of developing the Iraqi medical field in very difficult circumstances that Iraq witnessed during the last twenty years. His significant role led him to be one of the Iraqi pioneering doctors that contributed the medical expansion inside Iraq. This trait resulted in encouraging Iraqis to engage in studying the field of dentistry. As gratitude to his contributions in the different Universities of Iraq, the Iraqi Dentistry Syndicate and the presidency of the University Kufa held a funeral ceremony inside the University of Kufa, and many doctors dedicated their acknowledgement in their theses to his soul as an appreciation to his strenuous exerted efforts in the field of medicine. These contributions were varied between conferences and sessions; he participated in a scientific symposium entitled (Care of the expectant mother and dentistry) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (9/30/2010), the first dental conference at the College of Dentistry - University of Kufa 2010, he Second and third International Conference of Najaf in 2014 in Najaf Governorate - Najaf Dentists Syndicate and in the conference of root fillings that was held at the College of Dentistry - University of Baghdad 2017[2]. He occupied a post of lecturer and member of the scientific committee at the first conference of the Faculty of Dentistry - University of Kufa entitled (Modern intellectual creativity in dental science) for the period from 21-22 / 4/2010 and a lecturer in the scientific symposium entitled (Periodontal Diseases) at the College of Dentistry / University of Kufa for the period (11/30/2010).
