Für DESQview/386 stellte das kein Problem dar, für die Sicherheit wäre es eines geworden, aber dafür wäre ja XVCPI entwickelt worden. DPMI nahm das vorweg, weil das wichtigere Problem für Windows die Kompatibilität zur Windows-API war: mit DPMI sind Anwendung in einem Fenster möglich, mit VCPI nicht.

Schwächen und Nachfolge: Multitasking-fähig ist es, aber nicht im grafischen Modus, und es bietet, da es in Ring 0 läuft, keinen Schutz zwischen den Instanzen. Für DESQview/386 stellte das kein Problem dar, für die Sicherheit wäre es eines geworden, aber dafür wäre ja XVCPI entwickelt worden. DPMI nahm das vorweg, weil das wichtigere Problem für Windows die Kompatibilität zur Windows-API war: mit DPMI sind Anwendung in einem Fenster möglich, mit VCPI nicht.
