Fanny was an American girl band, led by June Millington. They were pioneers as one of the first rock bands to feature all women, and the third to sign to a major record label, after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and The Pleasure Seekers (Mercury Records). They reached the Top 40 three times, with "Charity Ball" in 1971, "I've Had It" in 1974, and "Butter Boy" in 1975, peaking at #40, #36, and #29 respectively in the Billboard Hot 100. Fanny was the first all-female band to release an album on a major label.

Fanny fan David Bowie said in Rolling Stone - 29 December 1999; "One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest... rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary... they're as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever; it just wasn't their time."

June and Jean Millington continued to record and release albums together after Fanny disbanded, most recently in the group Slammin' Babes. June, described by Guitar Player as the hottest female guitar player in the music industry, has had a career producing albums as well, for artist including Holly Near, Cris Williamson and Bitch and Animal. Jean has also done studio work for many artists, including Keith Moon, Bowie and Roderick Taylor. Jean continues to play bass guitar both in the recording studio and in concert, and is also an herbalist.. Patti Quatro continued to do studio work for artists, including Suzi Quatro, ELO, Keith Moon and Frances Gall, as well as touring. Patti is also involved with her sisters, in the retrospective release of the early Quatro musical female bands, "Cradle" and "The Pleasure Seekers".
Brie Howard, now going by the name Brie Howard-Darling, continued on as one of the top session and touring musicians of the 80's and 90's, playing and recording with everyone from Carole King, Jimmy Buffett and Elton John to Robbie Nevil and Jack Wagner. She also fronted the band American Girls (who put out a lone effort on I.R.S. Recordsa in 1986) as it's drummer and co-lead vocalist.
Her next band was Boxing Gandhis, of which she is co-lead vocalist and percussionist. The band put out two records ("Boxing Gandhis" in 1994 and "Howard" in 1996) before breaking up in 2001. The band has since reformed for periodic gigs around L.A.

A reunion show with the Millington sisters and de Buhr was held at Berklee College of Music on April 20, 2007; where the band members received the Rockrgrl Women Of Valor award for their achievements.

Later with Jools Holland is a contemporary music show hosted by Jools Holland. It has been running constantly since 1992 and is a part of BBC2's late-night line-up, usually around 11PM, hence the title. It regularly features a healthy mix of both established and new musical artists, from solo performers to bands and larger ensembles.

It is notable for its musical diversity and adventurism, as it draws from a large palette of both popular and World music, and each show features around five bands with a variety of styles performing for each other and a small studio audience. Jools Holland introduces the show and interviews one or more of the performers. A unique feature is the short jam session that begins each show, involving all of his invited guests, along with Holland on piano. This beginning jam session also best shows the unusual layout of the set – all the bands are arrayed in a circle with the audience filling in the gaps between them. Holland often also accompanies his guests' performances.

Occasional special editions of the show have been made to showcase a major artist under the "Later ..." banner, titled "Later presents...", artists featured in these shows have included R.E.M. (see Later with Jools Holland (R.E.M.)) in 1998, Oasis in 2000 and Radiohead in 2001. The band in question play for the duration of the hour-long show. Despite the different name, the show is still introduced by Jools Holland, and takes place in a similarly set-up studio.

Special editions broadcast on New Year's Eve each year are referred to as Jools Holland's Hootenanny. Repeated excerpts from the show have been broadcast under the title A Little Later.

Because of Holland's relaxed and confident presentation and the diversity of musical styles the series is seen by many as a fitting successor to the Old Grey Whistle Test.

Soul Train is a long-running American music-related syndicated television program. It premiered on local television station WCIU-TV in Chicago, Illinois in 1970 and went into first-run syndication in selected cities across the United States on October 2, 1971. New episodes are still being broadcast in first-run syndication today, and the show's opening claims that it is the "longest running first-run syndicated program in television history."

The program features African American singers and performers almost exclusively, although a few white musicians such as Elton John, The Romantics, Gino Vannelli, David Bowie, Teena Marie, Captain and Tennille, Michael McDonald, Paula Abdul, Sheena Easton, The Beastie Boys, a-ha, Michael Bolton, JoJo, The Backstreet Boys and Christina Aguilera have also appeared on Soul Train through the years. Artists usually lip sync their latest songs and are interviewed by the show's host.

Soul Train has primarily featured performances by R&B, soul, and hip hop artists, although jazz musicians and gospel singers have also appeared. In addition, there is an in-studio group of dancers who dance along to the music as it is being performed. (Rosie Perez, Carmen Electra, Nick Cannon, Jody Watley, singer Jermaine Stewart, singer/producer Pebbles, and NFL greats Walter Payton and Fred Williamson all got noticed dancing on the program over the years)

From its inception until 1993, the host of Soul Train was Don Cornelius, who is also the program's creator. Cornelius also commissioned the show's theme song, "TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)", recorded by Philadelphia soul studio group MFSB. Released as a single, this song became a pop and R&B radio hit in 1973.

During the heyday of Soul Train in the 1970s, the program was widely influential among younger black Americans, many of whom turned to it not only to hear the latest songs by well-known black artists but also for clues about the latest fashions and dance trends. Moreover, for many white Americans in that era who were not living in areas that were racially diverse, Soul Train provided a unique window into black culture. Some commentators have called Soul Train a "black American Bandstand", another long-running (though now cancelled) program with which Soul Train shares some similarities.

In its structure, each show ends with the popular "dance line", in which all the Soul Train dancers form a two lines with space in the middle for individual dancers to strut down and dance in consecutively. Sometimes, new dance styles or moves are featured or introduced by particular dancers.

The show is also known for its popular closing catchphrase, "...We wish you love, peace... and SOUL!"

Cornelius ended his stint as host in 1993, and guest hosts were used from that time until 1997. Mystro Clark hosted the show from 1997-1999, and Shemar Moore was the host from 1999-2003. Moore was succeeded by the current host, Dorian Gregory.

References in pop culture
*The comedy show In Living Color parodied Soul Train in 1990 with a sketch called Old Train. Keenen Ivory Wayans portrayed Don Cornelius as the host of a show that featured dancing elderly people. Participants in the "dance line" included a nurse pushing an old person in a wheelchair, and a casket being carried by pallbearers.

*The TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway? once featured a game in which one of the actors pretended he was the host of Soul Train, repeatedly morphing into a "goofy white guy" and back again.

*The Simpsons featured a parody show entitled Soul Mass Transit System.

*A sequence in the movie Charlie's Angels featured actress Cameron Diaz dancing on Soul Train.
