Cabot was born in [[Salem, Massachusetts]], and attended [[Harvard College]] for two years before dropping out to go to sea. By the age of twenty-one he was captain of his own ship.<br />

A member of the [[Pro-Administration Party]] and a [[Federalist]], Cabot's political career began in [[1775]] and lasted until he became a delegate to the Hartford Convention of [[1814]]. He died in [[Boston, Massachusetts]] in [[1823]] and was interred in the [[Mount Auburn Cemetery]] in [[Cambridge, Massachusetts]].<br />
