== Early life ==
Calum Thomas Hood was born on 25 January 1996 and raised in [[Mount Druitt]], [[New South Wales]].<ref name=":0">{{Cite book|title=Hey, Lets Make a Band!|year=2014|isbn=9780062366443|pages=25|last1=Summer|first1=5. Seconds of}}</ref> His father, David Hood, is a former [[Coca-Cola]] employee, while his mother, Joy Hood, worked in the [[Pension|superannuation]] industry.<ref>{{cite web|title=Calum Hood|url=https://people.com/archive/calum-hood/|access-date=2020-05-24|website=People}}</ref> Through his father he claims [[Scottish people|Scottish]] descent, and through his mother he claims [[Māori people|Māori]] descent. Hood is the younger brother of singer-songwriter, [[Mali-Koa Hood|Mali-Koa]]. Hood recalls his childhood upbringing to be "middle-class" and "not the most glamorous life".<ref name=":0" /> Hood attended Norwest Primary School where he befriended future band-mate [[Michael Clifford (musician)|Michael Clifford]] in the third grade. In 2011, Hood, Clifford and Hemmings began posting song covers on Hemmings' [[YouTube (channel)|Youtube channel]].
